Welcome to OverPlanted.com!
Are you a passionate gardener with an insatiable curiosity about ornamental plants? Do you like to experiment with plants in your garden? Do you have a tendency to buy plants in alarmingly large numbers? Then you, too, may be an OverPlanter, and this website is meant to feed your obsession. You’ll find information on all sorts of plant-related topics: profiles of perennials, annuals, bulbs, shrubs, trees, and drought-tolerant plants; discussions of garden design (including color, form, and texture, along with gardening in small spaces and urban gardens); tips on techniques (growing conditions, propagation, coping with problems); recommended gardening books and blogs; lists of nursery sources and plant organizations; a pronunciation guide to botanical Latin; and even how to mix a killer cocktail. (Gardening is hard work! You need to relax!) My name is Tom Fischer, and I’ll be leading you down the byways of the gardening world. (We’ll try to skirt the tall weeds.) I garden in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Oregon, to be precise) but I’ve also gardened in the Northeast and Midwest, so this is a website that transcends regional boundaries. I’m also editor-in-chief at Timber Press, publisher of outstanding gardening books. Enough chitchat—start (over)planting! And remember: there’s no such thing as “not enough room.”
